Book Review | Sarah Knight’s Self Help Books

Today, I want to talk about the books by Sarah Knight. I found out about these whilst travelling to Barcelona, I spotted ‘Get Your Sh*t Together’ at the airport and was too intrigued not to get it. The second of her books, this talks about how to basically prioritise your time a lot better.

As soon as I’d finished the second I had to read her first book, ‘The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck’ which focuses on spending more time on things you care about. In essence, both books focus on how to be a better, happier person in a way that doesn’t harm or insult anyone around you.

Sarah’s latest book is ‘You Do You’ – how to be who you are and use what you’ve got to get what you want. I read this over the weekend and it was perfect for me. Sarah even states within that the book is for ‘…misfits, rebels, black sheep, and unicorns’ and I would definitely identify as a misfit!

So, why is this book being mentioned in a motivational post, you might be thinking. It’s because the message it speaks about is completely true.

You shouldn’t be afraid to be yourself, even if you go against what’s “normal.” Everyone is different and that really should be celebrated more than it is.

Sarah goes on to talk about her own personal situations where she’s learned to just be herself for her own happiness and confidence. Throughout the book she mentions how she thinks certain social norms (such as ‘Don’t be Selfish’) should be adjusted so that you’re not restricting your own life.

She introduces each section in a way that tells you exactly what to expect, and with it being split up by different “norms” if there’s one that bothers you in particular you can skip right to it! (Bookmark it, mark it with a post-it, then read it whenever you’re wrongly feeling bad about being you.)

To conclude, it’s helpful, personal and even funny to read! I have one request for Sarah though… please advise me on everything else in life imaginable. Sincerely, a misfit.
